Mr. Guilherme Johnston
Guilherme's family is from São Paulo, but they bought a house on Fortaleza Beach in Ubatuba when he was very young and they used to spend their summer vacations here every year. He learned to love this magical city, exploring the rainforest trails, waterfalls and unspoiled beaches, surfing or snorkelling.
Guilherme loves to travel and lived in Australia for a while. He studied hotel management administration and when his mother decided to move to Ubatuba and transform their vacation home into a guesthouse, he went ahead and joined her. They take great pride in their hospitality and work hard to make everything perfect. They are always available to talk to their guests and give tips about Ubatuba and nearby cities.
A Casa do Sol e da Lua is concerned about preserving the environment. They have been using solar energy for about seven years and are implementing a water conservation programme. In all the rooms, reminders about the importance of water conservation are posted and guests are asked to assist the effort by not requiring a daily change of linen and towels if not necessary. They also educate their employees to use minimal water whenever possible.
The owners understand that it is important to promote sustainability and employ local workers who receive on-the-job training. This training helps improve the staff's self-esteem and builds an understanding of the value they add to the business.
Besides supporting traditional local community festivities like canoe races, aluminium cans and plastic bottles are separated and donated to poor local residents who sell them to recycling interests.
