Ubatuba is located halfway between Rio and São Paulo; access from São Paulo airport is slightly easier due to better air connections from Europe and USA, as well as road connection.

By car: Ubatuba is 240 km from São Paulo. Leaving town, take, in sequence, the Rodovia (freeway) Pres. Dutra, Rodovia Ayrton Senna, and Rodovia Carvalho Pinto, always travelling in the direction of Rio de Janeiro. There are two options to arrive in Ubatuba.

1^st option:  At the town of São José dos Campos, follow the signs to São Sebastião or Litoral ("coast") and continue until you arrive in Caraguatatuba, which is only 54 km from Ubatuba. The roads are well marked. Then look for signs for Ubatuba and follow this beautiful road, enjoying the wonderful seashore view.

2^nd option: On Carvalho Pinto Road, continue till Taubaté and then take Rodovia Pres. Dutra for about 10 km. Look for signs for Ubatuba, Litoral Norte, and take Oswaldo Cruz Road till Ubatuba. It is only 100 km, but the last 10 km will be winding, with a breathtaking view of Ubatuba's beaches. This road is particularly beautiful in the springtime when the flowers on the native trees of the Atlantic rainforest are blooming.

By bus: The Litoranea bus company (tel. 012/3832-3622) provides daily bus services from São Paulo, leaving from Tiete station at 7 am, 8.30 am, 10.30 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm, 6.30 pm and 9 pm. The trip takes approximately four hours. Check the schedule at: http://www.litoranea.com.br/

A Rio - São Paulo stopover: Ubatuba also makes an interesting stop on the way from Rio to São Paulo. The Util bus company (tel. 021/2573-12320) runs daily trips to Ubatuba, departing from Rodoviaria Novo Rio at 8.30 am and 11 pm. The trip takes approximately five hours.

If arriving in town from Taubaté, take the main street towards the sea until one street before the seashore avenue; follow the signs to the airport and Itagua Beach on the right. Go straight until the end of this street, turn left, and take the next right. Soon after passing the small airport, you will see Pousada Omnimare and Diving Centre, close to a gasoline station.

If coming from Caraguatatuba Road, after reaching Praia Grande Beach, look for the Ubatuba Centro (town) sign. Take the roundabout on the right, following Capitao Felipe Street until the next roundabout in front of Itagua Beach. Turn left and follow on Leovigildo Dias Vieira Avenue until you see the signs to return to Itagua, in front of the airport. Continue along this avenue until you see the gasoline station that is next to Omnimare Pousada.

Se voce estiver vindo de Caraguatatuba, logo depois da praia grande, entre na rotária onde diz Ubatuba à sua direita, siga pela Rua Capitão Felipe até a proxima rotatória, em frente a praia do Itaguá, vire a esquerda e siga em frente pela Avenida da praia. Voce vai passar pela frente do shopping porto Itagua e de vários restaurantes, mais na frente a avenida se estreita e passa a se chamar Rua Guarani, bem em frente ao Aquario. Siga por essa rua mais alguns metros até que ela vire avenida novamente. Voce verá um retorno a sua esquerda, quase em frente do restaurante Peixe com banana, retorne por essa rua que já é a Rua Guaicurus e logo em seguida já nos achará.

Caso voce chegue por Taubaté ou por Paraty, entre para Ubatuba na rotatória que tem uma estátua de Pescador em tamanho grande, siga pela Rua Thomas Galhardo, quase até o final, vire a sua direita uma quadra antes da avenida da praia. Siga então pela rua salvador correia até o final e depois a direita quando chegar a rua Liberdade e logo em seguida a direita novamente. Neste ponto voce estará passando em frente ao aeroporto de Ubatuba e já estará quase chegando aqui. Siga em frente mais um pouco e logo já avistará o posto de gasolina e a nossa sede.
