Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The owners of Pousada Omnimare believe they must be involved in environmental, social and economic projects in order to have a positive and full impact in the community.
With this in mind, they hire only local people to give locals the opportunity to improve their abilities and better sustain themselves and their families. They are given special training in different areas of work and also taught the importance of protecting the environment, minimizing the use of water, recycling waste, and using as little energy as possible.
The Pousada Omnimare now has rainwater harvesting and storm water reuse, this water is used to flush the toilets and to wash common floor areas. They also have a solar heating system and are always concerned about being environmentally friendly. Recycling practices are implemented and promoted in the Pousada. They try to minimize the use of important natural resources, particularly water and electricity. Organic waste is used in the garden.
The Pousada sponsors programs promoting consciousness and preservation of the local environment in the local community. Clean-up days are organized on the Ubatuba beaches every year, as well as talks in the local schools teaching the importance of not littering the streets, rivers, lakes and beaches.
The local orphanage and public hospital are supported with donations.
